Treatment of emotion dysregulation in borderline patients in DBT -
How to integrating DBT and CBT-E - the first choice for treatment of eating disorders (bulimia nervosa, anorexia and eating disorders nonspecified
Psychologist Casper Aaen is coming to Stockholm in Sweden the 20 of june to give a workshop in how to integrate the treatment of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa in borderline patients from a cognitive and behavioural therapy perspective (CBT-E) into DBT. The two treatments are easily compatible.
Psychologist Casper Aaen has worked with eating disorders for 7 years in the two biggest hospitals in Copenhagen. He has much experience with both inpatient and outpatient treatment of eating disorders. Psychologist Casper Aaen has been trained by professor Alan Fruzzetti for many years, professor Marsha Linehan, professor Åsa Nilsonne and many others. He has just published the book "Lev med dine følelser".
He has been highly trained by Professor Christopher Fairburn, who is an international authority on eating disorders and their treatment. Professor Fairburn has devopled CTB-E, and his latest book is a detailed guide to the practice of CBT-E titled Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Eating Disorders. CBT-E is the most validated and reliable treatment for eating disorders.
Since many borderline patients have eating problems, there are specific issues to adress and integrate into DBT to help borderline patients overcome their eating problems. If patients "use" food to control their feelings by restriction, binging or purging, they will not benefit from the treatment, because the "use of food" can be a safety problem, terapy interferring problem or a life quality problem. The issues will be discussed in the workshop.
Workshop the 20 of june 2012
In this one-day workshop Casper Aaen will describe an integration of CBT-E and DBT. The workshop will open with a brief account of the current standing of eating disorders and emotion regulation. For the rest of the workshop the focus will be on the detailed practical aspects of how to integrate CBT-E and DBT. Particular emphasis will be placed on novel methods for addressing patients’ problems regarding regular eating, shape- and weight concerns, bodytjecking, use of mirrors, and problems with use the weight numbers. Other topics will include engagement, addressing binge eating and purging, and helping underweight patients regain weight. The focus will also be on how to use DBT skills to improve eating skills - before, under and after the meals.
The workshop will be suitable for all those who work with patients with eating disorders.
